Not just trout...

The Trentino region is often associated solely with trout and streams: certainly, salmonids in flowing waters are fully represented, but lake species should not be underestimated: lake trout, Arctic char, and whitefish.

But there are also other species of interest for anglers, both in lakes and watercourses. Italian barbel, perch, chub, magnificent tench, catfish…come and discover them all!

Marble trout

Present in the Adige River, in all major valley streams, in some minor tributaries, and occasionally in mountain watercourses even just above 1,000 meters in elevation. The object of desire for all! Raincoats are part of the game…do you like the challenge?

Brown trout

Omnipresent and well-distributed in every watercourse, from the Adige River to the most insignificant streams. Challenging to catch with a variety of techniques, it offers a multitude of color patterns and sizes. A fish truly for everyone!

Marbled trout - Brown trout hybrid

Ibrido marmorata fario

It naturally coexists with the two semi-species, often prevailing, in all valley waters and up to mid-mountain areas. The most common catch is certainly in medium-flow waters.

Lake trout

Although it is nothing more than an adaptation of the brown trout, it deserves separate mention as a highly sought-after catch. Present in various lakes of the province, with excellent populations and sizes. It is targeted from the boat during specific times of the year. Aggressive, fast like a marine fish, silvery with blue/green metallic reflections…one of the most fascinating fish!!

Arctic char

A mysterious salmonid of icy waters, it is present in many high-altitude lakes. We fish for it in winter from a boat and in summer on mountain treks…even with spinning and even dry fly fishing! The ultimate for mountain lovers.

Grayling

temolo

Present in large sizes in the Adige River and in some high-flow watercourses of the valley floor, it is fished with fly, but thanks to alternative techniques we can make it a target for everyone! If you’ve never tried it, don’t miss the opportunity!

Whitefish

Forget about whitefish at 50 or more meters deep and average sizes of 30 cm! Present in many Trentino lakes and with large sizes (over 60 cm), it can also be fished from the shore at depths sometimes even below 5 meters. A fish to discover…or rediscover!

Perch

persico reale

Present in practically all lakes, even in large sizes. Beautiful to target from a boat, even with topwater lures in summer during feeding frenzies or on the bottom in October and November. Sometimes its catch is mixed with that of whitefish, Arctic char, or lake trout.

Tench

A rare fish? Not for us! The most sought-after fish by feeder or float fishing enthusiasts, present in almost all lakes with sizes often over 2 kg and up to over 4 kg. The most elegant fish of Trentino lakes. The true princess of the lake!

Chub

Present in lakes, it inhabits the lower reaches of some valley streams as well as the Adige River. Not to be underestimated!! Try it with us using topwater spinning from a boat—real surface explosions!

Barbel

barbo

This is the Italian barbel, the Barbus plebejus, which in the Adige River and the lower reaches of some valley streams reaches impressive sizes, often over 2 kg and up to 3 kg. Fantastic not only with float fishing but also with fly fishing! A golden train in the foaming waters of the streams. More than one has said, “Better than trout!”

Pike

Luccio

The predator par excellence, found in many lakes of various sizes. Best targeted from a boat during the autumn months.

Other

Other fishable species in our waters include: carp, shad, rudd, crucian carp, roach, American catfish, pumpkinseed, bleak, minnow, stone loach, Italian vairone, crayfish, and other minor fish species.
