January
Classic winter month for lake trout fishing, from shore or boat. Sometimes in January, you can successfully catch arctic char and even some large whitefish. It’s also possible to find active perch in deep waters.

February
February can be a great month for whitefish fishing, even from shore, sometimes considered the best for this species. In lakes, arctic char and lake trout remain active. Many rivers open, but fishing can be challenging, though it can still yield large fish (and many missed bites).

- Lake trout
- Trout (brown, marble, and hybrids) in some valley-bottom rivers (see openings)
- Grayling
March
March marks the start of the good season: it’s the ideal month for whitefish, but also the first interesting month for trout fishing in both large and small streams. Before spawning, large grayling are particularly active and should be released with care. In lakes, arctic char are active, and lake trout are possible, sometimes along with some large perch.

April
A valid month for many solutions: trout of every species and size in all watercourses, from small streams to large rivers, with various techniques. In lakes, still whitefish but also arctic char, and it can be an excellent month for good-sized lake trout. First chub from boats during surface activity. For shore fishing, the first tench. Depending on water levels, there are good opportunities for barbel and large chub.

May
As in April, trout fishing continues in all watercourses, now also moving to higher altitudes. It is an excellent month for tench, and pike fishing also opens. In lakes, from boats, lake trout are still good, while whitefish are declining (but also fattening…). The grayling has finished spawning. Chub and especially the first large barbel start to appear.

June
When the summer climate arrives, it’s time to head to the mountains. The high-altitude fishing for arctic char begins. Tench enter their spawning period. On lakes, spinning from boats for perch paired with chub starts. It’s the ideal month for large barbel, even on the fly.

- Marble trout and hybrids everywhere, from valley bottoms to the mountains
- Arctic char and brook trout in high-altitude lakes (an excellent month)

July
Summer: the ideal time is mountain trips for arctic char, boat outings on lakes for perch and chub, and evening fishing. An excellent month for large tench and big barbel.

August
Summer continues, but isolation is the key: mountains, wild areas, evening fishing. High-altitude fishing becomes more challenging but can still be feasible, depending on the seasonal conditions. Feeder fishing works well.

- Chub
- Arctic char and brook trout in high-altitude lakes
September
Summer is coming to an end. Almost all trout waters can be productive with various methods. Tourism decreases on lakes, and fishing generally improves, with both light spinning and feeder or Bolognese techniques working well.

- Brown trout, marble trout, and hybrids everywhere, from valley bottoms to the mountains
- Arctic char and brook trout in high-altitude lakes
- Grayling (if water levels allow)
- Perch

October
Autumn: an excellent month for lake fishing of perch, often also a great month for lake trout, with spinning from boats during surface activity and trolling, accompanied by large chub. Ideal for a mixed fishing day. In various stretches of rivers and streams, trout can be caught on the fly (and grayling) in no-kill mode, especially in the first half of the month. Last tench and first pike.

November
With the arrival of the cold, the focus shifts to predator fishing: pike and perch primarily, with some last surprises of lake trout and chub. Only in the Adige River and only with dry fly fishing is it possible to catch some grayling.

December
Generally, in December, anglers pause, waiting for January to resume trout fishing. However, in the first part of the month, if the days are mild, it’s still possible to try for perch and even some pike.
